This pack of 25 x 140mm Southern Yellow Pine heavy duty fence boards is currently available from stock at a reduced rate due to being a bit stained in places. This pack contains 180 lengths at 1.83m in height and will cover the following area:
- 46 square metres
- A fenced area 25 metres in length
At 25mm in thickness these boards will make an extemely solid fence. Simply nail or screw them to cross rails (we can supply SYP rails and posts if needed). They have bevelled edges at the top (rather than a square top) which gives the fence an attractive look.
Some boards in this pack have discolouration and most of not all have slight marks from the sticks between the layers in the pack, as shown in the images. They are not overly unsightly (especially for a fence) but they are not the same grade as our Southern Yellow Pine decking. They can be viewed at our warehouse in Widnes. It is likely that you will be pleasantly surprised as we have probably made them sound a lot worse than they actually are.
Our suggestion would be to either let the fence weather to a silver grey colour in which case any discolouration will disappear over time or stain them with one of our recommended finishes below. You could even use a solid colour stain in white or cape cod grey.
Why Use Southern Yellow Pine?
Southern Yellow Pine grows in a vast band across the Southern United States, from East Texas to Virginia. With a warm, natural look it blends beautifully with any landscape and offers one of the best defences against decay.
It has a proven track record of more than 75 years, and being one of the hardest and strongest pines in the world makes it an excellent choice for outdoor projects.
-Aesthetically pleasing
Southern Yellow Pine decking provides a warm, natural look that blends beautifully with the landscape. It is an aesthetically beautiful timber with an attractive honey colour and a distinctive grain pattern.
-Decay Resistant
Southern Yellow Pine reacts exceptionally well to being pressure treated. The unique cellular structure of Southern Yellow Pine permits deep, uniform penetration of wood preservatives, unlike many other timbers that only allow limited penetration of the preservative. This makes treating the exposed ends of sawn timber unnecessary and gives the timber a long service life, even in the British climate.
-Sustainable
Sustainable forestry practices ensure that the supply of Southern Yellow Pine will be maintained for future generations. Trees cover about a third of the entire United States and are more plentiful now than they were 75 years ago. In addition, over four million trees are planted every day in America and more are grown each year than are harvested or lost to disease, insects and fire.
The forests of the south are often called "America's Woodbasket." Here are just a few of the many reasons why:
-214 million acres of the United States' forestland is in the south.
-The south produces 15.8% of the world's timber production, and 58% of the timber production in the United States.
-By volume, the most abundant southern softwood species is Southern Yellow Pine making up one-third of the total inventory.
-Annually, softwood harvests total 6 billion cubic feet or 420 million tons of sawlogs, pulpwood, and other industrial roundwood products.
-Each year, southern landowners plant one billion seedlings. Following annual harvests, 3.3 million acres are reforested.
-89% of southern forests are privately owned; 11% are managed by government agencies.
-Durable
Southern Yellow Pine's high density means that it offers excellent wear resistance making it ideal for decks with high foot traffic.
-Strong
Southern Yellow Pine is the strongest structural softwood species for engineered and framing applications.
-Versatile
A wide range of sizes of Southern Yellow Pine are available from stock. The design possibilities are endless but a few project ideas to get you started include decks, railing, fences, pergolas, benches and planters. Southern Yellow Pine decks are easy to install requiring only basic tools and skills.
